February 15: Supermodel Rosi will again glide down the runway at the ALS New Mexico’s "Heart on Your Sleeve" fashion show & auction fundraiser.
Update: Indeed! Rosi encouraged support for the ALS cause with her modeling prowess!
April 8 - 15: We are booked for a bike tour of the Nikko North Alps, Japan – 8 days, about 285 miles, and about 24,000 feet of elevation gain.
Update: This bicycle tour far outstripped our expectations. Our fun-loving group of 4 Americans, 4 Aussies, 1 Brit and 1 Canadian bicycled 191 miles over 6 days, with approximately 16,000 feet of total elevation gain, through spectacular countryside, over-nighting in traditional Japanese ryokans, soaking in geothermal onsens, and dining on locally sourced meals. On our one rained out day, we visited a shrine, a temple, a local sake distillery, and a rural restaurant. And on a too-pooped-to-ride day, we hiked 8 miles among the streams and forests of the North Nikko Alps.
May 6: Perry plans another hike up Albuquerque’s La Luz Trail.
Update: After spending the prior day hiking with Jim (Perry’s stepbrother-in-law, who manages this Pedal & Swing website) along Chaco Canyon’s Pueblo Alto Trail, Jim and Perry then hiked Albuquerque’s La Luz Trail, to the top of Sandia Peak – about 3,800 feet of elevation gain over about 7.5 miles.
May 20: Perry will "swing" his golf clubs at the ALS New Mexico annual golf tournament fundraiser. (Hope the other golfers wear helmets!)
Update: As an individual golfer, Perry was teamed up with 2 other individual golfers, Kathy & Vincent, for a "best ball" tournament – one of the biggest fundraising events for ALS New Mexico. Despite Perry’s horrendous play, the threesome managed a score of 68 (1 bogie, 5 birdies, and 12 pars) at the Santa Ana golf course.
September 22: Formerly called the "ALS Walk", this year’s event is the 5K "2024 Walk 'n Wheel to End ALS", held at the UNM Track & Field Complex, 1800 Avenida Cesar Chavez SE, Albuquerque, NM. Registration opens at 8:30 am, and the actual 5K "Walk" starts at 10:00 am. Please join Perry and all of the other ALS New Mexico fundraisers for a brisk 5K walk around the track!
October 5 & 6: With the discontinuance of New Mexico’s Bike MS event, we plan to participate in the Bike MS: Arizona 2024, at McDowell Mountain Regional Park (16300 McDowell Mountain Park Drive, Fountain Hills, AZ 85268), on our tandem bicycle.
November 10: For dancers (and dancer-wannabe’s) our fourth annual Pedal & Swing 2-in-1 Fundraiser Dance will again be held at CSP Dance Studios (thank you, Patti!), and will again feature variety dance music from 5:00 – 6:45 pm (e.g., for Jitterbug, Cha Cha, Waltz, Salsa, NC 2-step, Rumba/Bolero, Country 2-step, Foxtrot, Tango, Quick Step, etc.), and West Coast Swing dance music from 7:00 - 8:30 pm. Admission is free, but a $10 minimum donation, either to ALS New Mexico and/or The National MS Society, is suggested and gratefully accepted!
On behalf of the MS Society and the ALS New Mexico, the purpose of Pedal & Swing is to raise awareness and funds for medical research, and to assist those adversely affected by MS and ALS. The more we all donate, the closer we ALL get to ultimately creating a world free of these neurodegenerative diseases.
Please make a tax-deductible donation to the MS Society and/or the ALS New Mexico.
